If you’ve got a new or existing foot or ankle problem we can help. Maybe you have concerns about your foot function or are unsure what kind of shoe suits your foot type. Perhaps you have already tried several remedies with little or no success. Our Foot Health assessment is designed to review your foot health status.
Our foot experts will perform an extensive and methodical assessment. During this time, we will take a full medical history and note down details of any medications you are taking, allergies and any previous treatment you’ve received. We will then medically examine your feet and lower limbs, looking closely at your skin and nails and feet overall. Where necessary, we may carry out a vascular assessment using specialist equipment to allow us to check your blood flow and to determine whether you may be suffering from poor circulation. We may also conduct a test on the nerve supply to your feet. You will then be provided with a full report on your foot health, advice and a tailored treatment plan with no obligation to you.
If you request cancellation of your appointment with less than 24 hours’ notice you are still liable for this payment. What to bring to your appointment?
Keeping your toenails trimmed properly is important for good foot health. Lifestyle choices, footwear, hobbies, disease and aging can contribute to changes in the nail. Quite often nails become difficult, if not impossible, to cut by yourself. Whatever the reason, you can trust our expert podiatrists to correctly and effectively trim your nails and advise you on how best to maintain good foot health.
We use podiatry-grade toenail clippers. Proper trimming is the best way to prevent ingrown toenails from forming or recurring along with good easy to follow advice. It also prevents injury in patients with diabetes and other chronic diseases, as a small nick in the skin could easily become infected and turn into a much bigger problem. We are well-practised in the correct way to trim toenails.
Hygiene is of the utmost importance to us; therefore, all instruments are cleaned in our ultrasonic cleaner and sterilized in our medical grade sterilizer and treatments are carried out using medical grade PPE.
Our Nail Care appointment is not recommended for any nail conditions that cause excessive curvature or excessive thickening of the nails or if you have an active ingrown toenail, however your podiatrist will advise you best about this. If your nails need buffed down to reduce thickness, then please book one of our chiropody appointments or if you are feeling like a complete over hall treat yourself to our signature deluxe chiropody appointment.
Do you have rough areas of skin on your feet? Perhaps you have painful corns from shoes rubbing? If you have answered yes to either question, then a Routine Chiropody treatment is just what you need! At this appointment your podiatrist will quickly and effectively trim your nails and remove your hard skin and corns, returning your feet to their former glory.
Hard plaques of skin which form on the foot in areas of high pressure can be painful and may develop into corns and callous. Whilst our expert podiatrists can painlessly remove these lesions, they can grow back quickly, especially if the adverse pressure continues from your shoes or due to the shape of the foot. In cases where these lesions reoccur our podiatrists will suggest further assessment to uncover the mechanical reasons behind your foot pain and corn/callus formation. Orthopaedic footwear may be offered where foot deformity is the cause of adverse pressure.
Our Podiatrists practice to the highest standards of infection control, we always use sterilized instruments and medical grade PPE.
Are your toenails discoloured? Do they appear thick and misshapen? Do you have a painful ingrown nail? Nails are sensitive skin appendages and they respond to changes in health and well-being. Many diseases have a huge impact on the appearance of your nails. Furthermore, toenails are at risk of fungal infections much more than fingernails. Fungal infections leave your nails brittle and discoloured. Our expert podiatrists are highly skilled in identifying nail pathologies and offering you the best treatment solutions. We also have an inhouse testing system for confirming nail fungus with results in just 5 minutes. Our modern medical grade electric nail files can quickly and painlessly sculpt your nails into a manageable shape. We make treating ingrown nails look like child’s play. If you are embarking on treatment for a fungal infection, we can leave your nails ready for topical treatments which will lead to faster results. All new patients must also attend a Foot Health appointment prior to their chosen treatment.
We use podiatry-grade toenail clippers, and drill bits which are sterilised in our medical grade sterilizers after each use. Hygiene is of the utmost importance to us, therefore all treatments are carried out using medical grade PPE.
If you present with a foot condition that is not covered by your chosen appointment, you will be informed and recommended to take up a further separate appointment at an extra cost.
Are you experiencing pain in your hips, knees, ankles or feet? Have you any structural deformities causing pain such as bunions, toe deformities, high or low arches or a previous injury to your feet. Perhaps you are simply concerned with the way you walk or run? A Lower Limb Biomechanical and Gait assessment involves observing how the body moves during walking and running. Our expert Podiatrists are revered at their attention to detail when assessing the way your legs and feet work whilst you walk or run.
Your podiatrist will carry out a detailed questionnaire in order to gain an insight into how long you’ve had the pain or discomfort, what makes it worse, what makes it better and so on. You will be assessed both on our treadmill using the latest in video gait analysis equipment and on our treatment couch looking at how you stand, walk and check the range of motion of the joints such as the hip, knee, ankle and foot joints. They will also test muscle and where applicable nerve function. We will review and assess each movement into individual segments to see where pathologies may be originating from.
You will be asked to bring shorts so that we can carry out assessments out without clothing getting in the way and it is also important that you bring with you a selection of shoes you normally wear for different activities so that we can make sure they are the right kind of shoe for you and examine wear patterns.
At the end of your appointment, your Podiatrist will discuss with you their findings and make recommendations with regards to further treatments. Our advice may include:
A Verruca is a type of a wart on the sole of the foot. They are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) and appear as small lumps which may be painful. Whilst verrucae may spontaneously revolve on their own, this may take months or years and potentially can easily spread to other body parts and to other people. At AAlba we use a combination of therapies to resolve these stubborn lesions. Generally, over the counter treatments are successful if you catch the lesion in time, however, occasionally you may need our expertise.
Your podiatrist will assess your skin lesion and develop a treatment plan based on your lifestyle and treatment needs. Verrucae treatments include removing the top layers of thickened skin and applying medicated dressings in order to reach deep under the lesion to remove it effectively. As this is a staged treatment process you will be required to return usually weekly to monitor your progress and make changes as required. Whilst we strive to bring innovative treatments to our patients, we believe that this traditional tried and tested method is the most successful and cost effective way to treat these stubborn lesions.
